An eight-year-old dancing queen from Rosslyn Gardens north of Pretoria recently walked away with second prize at an international dancing competition.

Kuhlekodwa Nkosi, a Gr 3 pupil from SPARK Rosslyn Hub, competed in the WLDF dance competition in Stratford-upon-Avon in England from 2 to 4 August.

Kuhlekodwa was one of about 50 dancers from Scotland, Ireland, England and South Africa.

Team SA came third and won a spot in the competition finale.

“It was a tough competition with so much talent,” said Kuhlekodwa’s mother, Monica Nkosi.

Kuhlekodwa usually practises dancing twice a week.

“While preparing for the competition they trained four times a week”.

Monica says Kuhlekodwa started dancing from a very young age.

“She danced on her own at the age of two and while she was at crèche. In 2017 she started doing ballet in Gr 1. She loves ballet and cannot wait to wear pointe dancing shoes.”

Monica says her daughter wants to be a dance teacher and have her own dance studio one day.

“I am very proud of her hard work. I am supporting her 100%. We also thank her school for allowing her to take leave to compete.”
