Garsfontein police, Parkview shopping centre partner up against crime

“These roads often serve as a quick and easy escape route for criminals.”

The Garsfontein police station and Parkview shopping centre’s new management in the east of Pretoria joined hands recently to improve security at the centre.

“Criminals have targeted the centre in the past because of accessibility to roads such as Garsfontein Road and De Villebois Mareuil Street,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Nel.

“These roads often serve as a quick and easy escape route for criminals.”

Nel said Rico Moschetta, who is part of the centre’s management, has been in talks with the police station on how to improve security measures at the centre.

Station commander Colonel Kervin Solomons has welcomed the initiative.

“We are committed in improving security measures at the shopping centre to ensure the safety of our community,” said Solomons.

“It is important for us to engage with the police,” said the centre’s commercial property manager Pieter Rautenbach.

“Also, the public must understand that they must not only be safety conscious for themselves, but look out for their fellow countrymen’s safety. We all have our part to do.”

Nel further said various awareness campaigns as well as crime prevention operations have been held in the area to fight crime.
