A local businessman who was held at gunpoint for his Rolex and cash has offered a R50 000 reward to anyone with information about the suspects.

A Pretoria East businessman has offered R50 000 reward to anyone with information that would lead to the men who robbed him of his Rolex watch and cash at gunpoint last month.

Wynand Smit of Mooikloof had gone to the local Steers fast food outlet at Parkview shopping centre on 31 May around 20:00.

“He placed his order, waited for the food and then collected his food,” Smit’s spokesperson Laurie Botha told Rekord.

“As Smit got to his car, a silver VW Audi A4 was parked next to his Mercedes Benz. The next moment two passengers jumped out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at him.

“One put a gun to his head,” Botha said.

The men allegedly demanded Wynand’s Rolex watch, wallet and car keys.

“The driver rushed his accomplices: ‘hurry up, hurry up’, and they then jumped back into the Audi and quickly drove off. The whole ordeal took about 15 seconds.”

Botha said as it was month end, Smit did have a “few thousand rand” on him at the time of the robbery. He however did not want to disclose the exact amount.

“Smit believes the suspects took his car keys so that he could not pursue them,” Botha said.

Garsfontein police’s Warrant Officer Michael Nel said the incident was reported at the police station and case of armed robbery was being investigated.

Nel could not confirm if the incident was related to the so-called notorious Rolex-gang.
