Despite not implementing any load shedding this week Eskom warned the risk of stage 1 load shedding remained on Friday.
Eskom has warned it might need to implement load shedding from 17:00 to 22:00, but “only if absolutely necessary”.
This is a result of a shortage in capacity due to loss of generating units at its power stations.
The power utility said under its so-called Winter Plan, it had to implement 26 days of stage 1 load shedding during the winter period.
“Based on the plan, we have successfully managed to go five days without implementing load shedding,” Eskom said in a statement.
“We continue to encourage residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly. By rallying together, we can save up to 500MW – the equivalent of one unit at a power station.”
Eskom urged customers to check their load shedding schedules on the Eskom and municipal websites.
“Please switch off geysers as well as non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to help reduce demand.”
