Crochet for Cansa fundraiser a big hit

“This year we had the privilege to have Karen Adendorff to show the ladies how to crochet a purse project.”

A Crochet for Cansa fundraising event was held at Anja Tea Garden on Saturday.

The event was attended by over 100 ladies from Pretoria, and kicked off at 09:00 until 15:00.

The event started in 2017 with 70 people attending and sold out within a week of advertising.

Organisers Elza-Marie van Lille and Marlene Jordaan said it is growing “year by year”.

“This year we had the privilege to have Karen Adendorff to show the ladies how to crochet a purse project,” they told Rekord.

Adendorff is the author of several crochet books.

“Besides raising funds for Cansa, we also host this event to get ladies together to celebrate life.”

“At this year’s event we had eight cancer survivors and it is a blessing to have had them.”

Many people who attended have family or friends suffering from cancer.

“Anja’s Tea Garden was the perfect venue to have hosted the event as it brings a sense of calm to everyone,” said organisers Van Lille and Jordaan.

“We are planning to host the event yearly and, if things go according to plan, we will be able to donate more than R18 000 to Cansa.”

Ladies attending the event were handed a project bag and goodie bags, sponsored by Spar.

“At the end of the day we are pleased to say the event was a huge success,” they said.

“People have already asked when next year’s event would be held.”
