UPDATE: Dros ‘rapist’ to appear in court

Ninow faces rape charges after he allegedly forced a seven-year-old girl into the men's toilets where he raped her.

The man accused of raping a seven-year-old child at a Dros restaurant in Silverton is expected to appear at the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

Nicolas Ninow faces charges of possession of drugs, intimidation and rape after he allegedly forced the girl into the men’s toilets where he raped her.

In his last appearance, Ninow was found fit to stand trial after a psychiatric evaluation ordered by the court.

His 30-day evaluation took place at the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in the west of Pretoria.

The 20-year-old Ninow’s referral to the psychiatric hospital came after it was submitted to the court he suffered from bipolar disorder and drug abuse from the age of 14.

Defence lawyer Riaan Du Plessis earlier said a psychiatrist had concluded Ninow was “suicidal”.

The girl, whom Ninow is accused of raping, is said to be doing ‘OK’ and was back at school.

*Though the law prohibits identifying someone accused of a sexual offense before this individual has pleaded to the charge, Caxton made an editorial decision to name Ninow following the circumstances around his previous appearance on 2 October.
