UPDATE: Tshwane mayor told to review Mayco

“We want to test you on the employment of these two (Brink and Fourie). It’s not about colour… it’s not about who is white or black. It’s about these two people who are not performing.”

Opposition parties the ANC and EFF have called on the Tshwane mayor to remove the MMCs of finance and corporate shared services from his committee.

The parties said this morning during a council meeting that they wanted the newly elected mayor to review his mayoral committee due to some of the MMCs “not performing”.

The EFF’s Obakeng Ramabodu said Mare-Lise Fourie, MMC of finance was the centre of the metro and she was not performing but was brought back because she was feared within the DA caucus.

Ramabodu also said the MMC for corporate and shared services, Cilliers Brink, was the real mayor of Tshwane and not Stevens Mokgalapa.

“He is in charge, man. We are not kids. It’s because there are people scared of him in the caucus.

“His department is a mess, he is not able to do his job and he is allergic to black people being employed.”

He warned the mayor to “check the MMCs who are not performing, why are you bringing them back? Please change this Mayco.”

He said the mayor chose people who are decelerating service delivery.

“We want to test you on the employment of these two (Brink and Fourie). It’s not about colour… it’s not about who is white or black, it’s about these two people who are not performing.”

Earlier the parties had invited the mayor to give reasons for his mayoral committee choices “as some were not performing”.

Tshwane ANC leader Kgosi Maepa said the DA had changed nothing.

“They forced Mokgalapa to continue doing wrong things. We don’t want old wine in new bottles.”

“Don’t infuriate the opposition. If you want to survive, walk with us.”

He said Mokgalapa must remove the two MMCs by next week.

Mokgalapa said the choice of who was on his mayoral committee was his prerogative and he did not need to give council his reasons.

“It was my own decision, and I can remove any one of them at any time. Can we move on and ensure that Tshwane residents get the services they deserve?”
