UPDATE: Alleged #DrosRape victim doing ‘OK’

#NotInMyName called for Nicolas Ninow to be charged with attempted murder.

A seven-year-old girl who was allegedly raped at a Pretoria east restaurant is doing well.

The girl was followed from the play area and “snatched” into the men’s toilet by a 20-year-old man where the alleged sexual assault happened.

Civil rights group #NotInMyName said the girl was doing well and was in school, but could not give much information about her condition.

“The family has requested that we keep the child out of the spotlight for her protection.

We can’t divulge much about the child, but what we know is that she is OK and is in school,” said #NotInMyName secretary Themba Masango.

Nicolas Ninow (20) was arrested after he was allegedly found naked with the child in the toilet.

He faces charges of rape, intimidation as well as possession of Methcathinone, commonly known as Cat, which is a highly addictive recreational drug that has been found to be difficult to treat among users.

It is believed Ninow has had drug abuse problems since the age of 14 and had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Ninow had allegedly been eyeing the girl from the Dros restaurant’s play area and followed her to the toilet where he allegedly forced himself on her.

He is expected back in court on 5 March.

*Though the law prohibits identifying someone accused of a sexual offence before they have pleaded to the charge, Caxton made an editorial decision to name Ninow following the circumstances around his previous appearance on 2 October.
