Three ‘cable thieves’ caught in the east amid load shedding

This arrest comes after Tshwane had experienced a massive power outage Tuesday morning, wreaking havoc on the roads.

Three men were caught red-handed while stealing copper cables from a mini-power station in Sunnyside in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“The suspects were spotted near the corner of Beckett and WF Nkomo streets by guards who then alerted police,” said Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela.

They were aged 28, 32 and 40.

Sunnyside station commander Brigadier Ramakamakama Kekana commended both his officers and the guards for responding promptly to the vandalism of the power station.

This arrest comes after Tshwane had experienced mass load shedding in the morning, causing bad traffic for residents.

Eskom had implemented Stage 3 rotational loadshedding on Tuesday.

Massive power outages occurred in Capital Park, Mayville, Pta CBD, Colbyn, Queenswood, Rivieria, Eldoraigne, Groenkloof, Muckleneuk and Lukasrand, Akasia, and Doornpoort, among others.

The men are expected to be charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

They will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
