Top Menlopark 2018 matriculants

Seventeen of the learners obtained seven distinctions and 16 achieved six distinctions each.

Die Hoërskool Menlopark obtained 604 distinctions from its 279 matric learners.

Seventeen of the learners obtained seven distinctions and 16 achieved six distinctions each.

Francis de Klerk and Dricus Oerlemans scored 10 distinctions each, while Mariané Oberholster and Tunet Trumpie obtained nine each.

Jaydean Botha, Eben Benade, Nelis Daniels, Karla Steyn and Chris Ehlers each earned eight.

The school’s top performing students were: Jaydean Botha, Eben Benadé and Marianè Oberholster.

Botha obtained eight distinctions with an overall average of 92.1 percent for Afrikaans huistaal, English first additional language, maths, life orientation, accounting, computer application technology and geography.

She said she planned on studying actuarial science at the University of Pretoria.

During the year, she has had to juggle sports and academics, which she did well as she managed to secure a place in the top 10 throughout the year.

“I am a keen netball player and I was also a captain of my team.

“I was part of the high school academic top 10 of Menlopark every year, which is a great honour because it is not easy to be there.”

Benadé scored an overall average of 91.3 percent with distinctions for Afrikaans huistaal, English home language, maths, physical science, IGO, information technology, life orientation and Alpha Maths. He plans to study Information Technology so he can come up with some of the “world-changing” innovations.

“The future lies in the IT world, sci-fi and virtual realities. I plan to develop something revolutionary that will take IT, cellphones and computers in a new direction,” he said.

Oberholster got nine distinctions and an overall average of 90.9 percent.

Her subjects were Afrikaans huistaal, English home language, maths, physical science, accounting, information technology, computer application technology, life orientation and alpha maths.

She plans to take a gap year to “check in which direction I want to move”.

“I enjoy working hard and therefore I know when I decide on a direction, I will fully grasp every opportunity and make the best of it,” she said.
