Hoërskool Waterkloof 2018 matrics shine

One learner, Marcel Zehnder obtained 100 percent pass rate in physical science.

Hoërskool Waterkloof achieved 100 percent in the 2018 matric exams.

Of those learners, 97 percent earned entry to degree study with 26 learners obtaining more than seven distinctions.

The school has achieved a 100 percent pass rate for 29 consecutive years and been the top academic school since 2008.

One learner, Marcel Zehnder obtained 100 percent pass rate in physical science.

The top-performing learners were Johné Hattingh, Marcel Zehnder, Zander du Toit and Aletia Siebrits.

Hattingh obtained nine distinctions with an overall average of 96.14 percent in Afrikaans, English, maths, French, life science, business studies, physical science, alpha maths and life orientation.

He plans to study medicine at the University of Pretoria and wishes to be a paediatrician.

His hobbies and interests include photography, reading and learning new languages.

Zehnder obtained eight distinctions and an overall average of 94.71 percent.

His subjects were Afrikaans, English, maths, life sciences, life orientation, alpha maths, accounting and physical science for which he got 100 percent.

“I am going to study medicine at Tuks and further than that, only God knows what the future holds,” he said.

Sharing third position were Zander du Toit and Aletia Siebrits who each obtained eight distinctions and an average of 92 percent.

Both learners plan to study mechanical engineering at the University of Pretoria.

“I would like to do my honours overseas,” said Zander

“I’ll just have to see what opportunities arise after my studies,” said Siebrits.

According to principal Chris Denysschen, these excellent results were a joint effort between hard-working learners, loyal parents and dedicated teachers.

“The 2018 NSC examination went very smoothly at Hoërskool Waterkloof and the school was fortunate that no matriculant was absent or ill during the examination,” he said

The Tshwane South district, which consists of schools in the East of Pretoria as well as Mamelodi led the province and was second best in the country for its outstanding results.
