Mosola ‘laughs off’ DA charges against him

“These pathetic attention-seeking media tactics, political conspiracies including daily leaks to particular journalists smack of desperation by mayor Solly Msimanga.”

Embattled city manager Moeketsi Mosola has laughed off a case of crimen injuria the DA opened against him at the Brooklyn police station on Friday.

In his latest statement, Mosola said the DA’s statement distributed to the media on Friday was “laughable.”

“These pathetic attention-seeking media tactics, political conspiracies including daily leaks to particular journalists’ smacks’ (sic) of desperation by the Executive Mayor – Solly Msimanga.”

He claimed the Chapter 9 institutions’ reports were being used as tools in a political witch-hunt against Accounting Officers.

Opening the case on Friday, the DA Gauteng North regional chairperson Abel Tau said Mosola, stood as an enemy of the people, service delivery and the fight against corruption.

“It is for this reason that I have laid charges against Dr Mosola, Tshwane’s Architect of Corruption.”

Tau said Mosola was accused of interfering in the awarding of tenders, most prominent of them, being the R12 billion GladAfrica contract, which was investigated by the Auditor-General, Bowmans and the City Council.

“It, therefore, stands that there was strong evidence that he allegedly undermined the Municipal Finance Management Act and if found guilty of this charge, Dr Mosola faces up to five years in prison or an appropriate fine.”

He added that Mosola was also accused of using the City’s resources to defame the Executive Mayor, Solly Msimanga, and the Administration.

Therefore, a charge of crimen injuria was laid against him.

“Mosola is aided and abetted by a coalition of corruption – the ANC and EFF – who have frustrated Council’s obligation to place the Architect of Corruption on precautionary suspension, so a full-scale investigation can take place without interference or intimidation.”

“Which begs the question – why are the ANC and EFF who claim to represent the poor, protecting someone accused of stealing from the poor and blocking all efforts to speed up the delivery of services,” Tau questioned.
