UPDATE: Condition of UP student (20) improving

Adel Cato sustained serious head injuries that left her in a coma for nearly three months when she was run over by a car in Hatfield in July.

The condition of the University of Pretoria student hit by a car almost three months ago is “slowly improving”.

Adel Cato (20) sustained serious head injuries that left her in a coma for nearly three months when she was run over by a car in Hatfield in July.

Her father Frank Cato said Adel was now fully conscious after months of unconsciousness.

“She is completely awake but still undergoing rehabilitation.”

Cato said doctors had concluded that Adel had sustained serious brain injuries that affected her speech and coordination.

“She is unable to walk, talk or eat on her own so she still has a long way to go but improving.”

“We are very positive about her progress.”

He said Adel was aware of her surroundings and more responsive.

After Adel’s accident friends and family took to social media to garner support and prayers for her.

People from all over the country offered their prayers in support of her family.

Cato said he was grateful to everyone who assisted the family “some of whom made financial contributions during our time of need”.
