East schoolgirl (12) killed by unlicensed taxi driver

“The 32-year-old taxi driver was arrested for operating a taxi without a driving licence and was charged for culpable homicide.”

A schoolgirl was killed by a speeding taxi on Wednesday morning.

“The driver of the taxi was arrested on the scene for driving without a licence,” said police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe.

On arrival, the paramedics certified the 12-year-old girl dead on the scene.

“The girl was on her way to school when she was fatally hit by the taxi.”

“The accident occurred in Solomon Mahlangu Drive next BP Garage Bridge in Mamelodi East, Extension 6.”

Mbewe concluded that the police were busy with the investigations.

The suspect would appear before the Mamelodi Magistrate court within 48 hours on a charge of culpable homicide.
