UPDATE: Senior city managers face suspension

The officials are accused of unlawfully awarding a multi-billion rand project management contract to an engineering company.

Some senior city managers face possible suspension, pending an investigation into a tender for an alleged irregular multi-billion rand contract.

Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga said in a statement on Tuesday he would ask the city council to temporarily suspend the officials suspected of being involved in the awarding of a tender to an engineering firm, Glad Africa.

The ANC Gauteng has accused Tshwane city manager Moeketsi Mosola and two MMCs of maladministration, calling on them to be sacked.

They claimed that city manager Moeketsi Mosola has unlawfully awarded the project.

Msimanga said before commencing of formal disciplinary proceedings against the accounting officer the other senior official, he has sent a set of formal questions the city manager “in the interest of fairness and due process”.

“I have come to the determination that an independent investigation authorised by council is the best way to establish the facts into allegations of irregularity by city officials,” he said.

Msimanga said this would, however, not mean the officials would not be given a chance to defend themselves.

“As stated in the disciplinary regulations, they will be afforded an opportunity to provide council with reasons why they should not be suspended.”
