UPDATE: Freedom Park bomb scare a hoax

Buildings were evacuated earlier in the day.

A verbal warning of a bomb being left on the Freedom Park premises proved to be a hoax on Wednesday afternoon.

“Our bomb squad experts were sent to the scene and did not find anything,” police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said.

Huma said security at the park had received an anonymous phone call from someone saying a bomb had been left on the premises.

“The scene was cleared and we were back in the office at around 11:00,” park spokesperson Modjaji Makoela said.

Earlier in the day, Makoela told Rekord the buildings at the heritage site were being evacuated.
