Mamelodi residents protest over power outages

The metro police quelled the disruptions and were still monitoring the situation.

There were no disruptions at Tshwane metro’s customer service centres in Mamelodi on Friday following protests that held up operations the day before.

Protesting residents of Mamelodi disrupted operations at two service centres on Thursday.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the protest was over power outages in the area.

“The disruption of operations at Waltloo depot and Mamelodi customer center has resulted in delayed services to the metro’s consumers.

“The protesting group complained against the ongoing power interruptions which are often as a result of illegal connections and tampering with meters,” Mashigo said.

He said technicians were still busy repairing a cable between Waltloo and Gaskov Engineering substation which recently left nearby residents and businesses without power.
