SCHOOL: Curro Thatchfield Drummies shine

The team participated in the elite league for the first time.

Curro Thatchfield drummies was one of the qualifying teams chosen to represent Gauteng at the South African majorette and cheer-leading association (SAMCA) national championship hosted in Oudtshoorn from 4 to 8 July 2018.

The team, consisting of 48 young athletes, participated in the elite league for the first time – since being crowned the president’s league winners in 2017.

Curro Thatchfield competed in five categories in the semi-finals and was the only team from the president’s league to advance to the finals in all categories.

Curro Thatchfield won a bronze for the squad category and ranked number five in South Africa – out of 16 elite teams.

The team’s achievement was accompanied by an invitation to represent South Africa at the upcoming majorette-sport world federation international championship to be hosted in Cape Town in September 2018.

Curro Thatchfield will be the only primary school team from Pretoria at this international championship.
