SCHOOL: Next generation stars converge on Southdowns

The festival provided an enthusiastic atmosphere for the players to show off their sporting talents.

During the month of June, the Southdowns College preparatory school hosted three mini-hockey festivals for the 2018 season.

The fun-filled Saturdays were attended by supportive parents and coaches and over 68 u.7, u.8 and u.9 hockey teams consisting of schools such as Elardus Park, Lynwood Primary, Hennops Park, Cornwall Hill College, Die Poort and Wonderboom.

The event was facilitated by the school’s head hockey coach Marina Meyer and hockey director Michelle Joubert.

The festival provided an enthusiastic atmosphere for the players to show off their sporting talents, with incredible support by players’ parents and family members.

“This festival was the perfect opportunity for young players to develop their skills and grow hockey as a culture at Southdowns College as well as other schools,” said Joubert.

“It was an amazing experience watching mini-hockey teams on our astro,” said Southdowns principal Pierre Labuschagne.

“I must commend each team on the way they conducted themselves and the spirit they showed during their games.

The success of this festival is a clear indication that the next generation of hockey superstars are being shaped.”
