SCHOOL: Southdowns College Grade 4 soccer player lifts Mayoral Cup

Participation at the mayoral cup comprises top players selected from clubs across the Tshwane region.

Southdowns College Grade 4 pupil Bohlale Makibinyane, and his under-11 Football Association Pretoria (FAP) team won the mayoral cup tournament in Tshwane on 23 June.

This after competing against 15 regions in the knockout stages.

The tournament is an annual event co-hosted by the South African Football Association (SAFA), local football associations and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Participation at the mayoral cup comprises top players selected from clubs across the Tshwane region, following competitive trials held over two successive weekends.

Bohlale was handed the mayoral cup by sports and recreation MMC Ms Mokgothu representing mayor Solly Mosimanga.

The tournament is aimed at developing football in the region.

Under -5, under-13 and under-11 age groups all competed.

“Bohlale Makibinyane is very passionate about football,” said his father Lefadi Makibinyane.

“He is excelling in the game both at the club and regional level. He and each of his teammates displayed outstanding sportsmanship and dedication on the field to achieve such a great feat.”

Bohlale began playing for Centurion Blues football club informally towards the end of 2017.

In early 2018, he registered with the club’s u-11 team. Following participation in the trials, he was selected for the u-11 A-team and then moved to the B-Team to play in the Golden League.

“Bohlale is excelling in football and we hope that he can develop his football passion to higher levels,” said Makibinyane.
