UPDATE: Brooklyn man to appear in court for wife’s ‘murder’

Prem Emmanuel Basdeo (58) is facing a charge of murder, defeating the ends of justice and perjury after he reported his wife, Dawn, missing on Friday 8 June.

A Brooklyn man is expected in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court this morning for the murder of his wife

Prem Emmanuel Basdeo (58) is expected to make a bail application.

He is facing a charge of murder, defeating the ends of justice and perjury as the police believe he killed his wife Dawn, then reported her missing on Friday 8 June.

Dawn’s body is yet to be found but her car was recovered in Soweto two days after her disappearance.

“Police are out every day searching for the body,” said police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

She was last seen leaving her home on her way to hospital earlier in the days for scheduled medical tests.

She neither arrived at the hospital nor returned home.

“The man was not truthful in his initial statement when he reported his wife missing.”

Basdeo was arrested a week ago and made a brief court appearance on the same day.

The Brooklyn police have since appealed to other police stations in the province as well as members of the public to contact them if they find a body that matched Dawn’s description.
