SKOOL: Maragon’s own Bruce Fordyce

He hopes to inspire and motivate other people to run.

A Maragon college staffer has completed his third Comrades and looking forward to more.

Dirkie Smith finished in impressive 9 hours, 41 minutes and 30 seconds “with a big smile on his face”.

Smith, to whom, running was a lifestyle necessity to escape the day-to-day stresses, started running in grade 2 and has never stopped.

He hopes to inspire and motivate other people to run.

He helped organise a cross country at his previous school and ran it so he could relate to the children and understand how they felt.

He says running the Comrades was always on his bucket list and after the first one, there was no turning back.

“I find the camaraderie between athletes indescribable,” he says adding next in his list is Ironman.
