UPDATE: Brooklyn woman body still missing

Dawn Basdeo's husband who was arrested for her murder on Thursday was also accused of a similar crime 14-years ago.

Police are still searching for the body of a Brooklyn woman who went missing over a week ago.

Dawn Basdeo (57) went missing on Friday, 8 June when she left home for the Little Company of Mary Hospital.

She never arrived at the hospital or returned home.

Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said despite making an arrest, there was still no breakthrough in uncovering the body.

On Thursday the woman’s husband, Prem Emmanuel Basdeo (58) was arrested in connection with her murder.

“We still have not found the body and the search continues. Police and the K9 unit are working around the clock,” she said.

“We are also searching the location that the suspect has pointed out to us,” she said.

Prem joined friends and family in search for Dawn after he reported her as missing at the Brooklyn police station.

Weilbach said forensics led police to believe that he was involved in his wife’s murder.

He will also face charges of perjury and for defeating of justice for allegedly not being truthful in his initial statement when he reported his wife as missing.

Police said he was currently the only suspect, but investigations would continue.

In 2000 Prem was accused of a similar crime when his then wife, Neetha Bosdeo, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a shipping container Durban which the family was using while their home was being refurbished.

His son, Jordan was also accused of being involved.

A Durban judge found the pair not guilty.
