Talks between striking Eskom workers and the employer are expected to resume as fear mounts the strike will harm production.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said non striking workers were attacked on Thursday as they tried to make their way to work.
Strikers blockaded roads around power stations and regional offices.

Workers affiliated to the national union of metalworkers of SA (Numsa) and the national union of mineworkers (NUM) embarked on a strike demanding a 15 percent salary increase and a R2 000 housing allowance.
“The generation and distribution of electricity across Eskom’s network is constrained today due to sabotage and intimidation by members of the trade unions.”
Phasiwe said power stations that were worst-affected by the industrial action were Hendrina, Camden, Kendal, and Arnot.
He said the power utility had a back up plan should the strike bring production to a halt.
Speaking outside the Eskom head office, Megawatt Park today, CEO Phakamani Hadebe said negotiations with unions would resume.

He was was address protesting workers there to submit a memorandum of their demands.
“Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan has intervened, calling Eskom negotiators back to the table to up their offer, in order to avert a full-blown strike.”
Eskom will provide regular updates on production through out the day, Phasiwe said.
