SCHOOL: Southdowns learner wows Jacaranda Day crowd

“Lillia wowed the Jacaranda day crowd on 2 June with her unique style and beautiful voice."

A Southdowns College learner recently opened the Jacaranda FM Jacarada Day at the Monument in Pretoria to much acclaim.

Lillia Lessev won her chance to open for MiCasa, Freshly Ground and The Parlotones, to name a few when she impressed in the event’s Opening Act competition.

“At only 14 the grade 8 learner is a young talent.

Lessev started singing taking lessons with Jolanda Becker two and half years ago and plays the guitar as well as the ukulele,” says proud mother, Svetla Lessev.

“In the last year she started expressing herself through her own songs with both composing the music and writing the lyrics.”

Lessev has taken part in concerts, events, talent shows and open mike nights.

She won gold and two silvers in three categories of the Satch competition last year including a gold for songwriting, where she was the youngest performer.

Lessev is described as well-balanced, modern girl who has always been among the top achievers at the school

She is humble with a soft heart and has a love for animals and most of all, an immense passion for music.

“Lillia wowed the Jacaranda Day crowd on 2 June with her unique style and beautiful voice. A proud moment for us at Southdowns College,” commented Sheldon Rocha Leal, director of creative arts at Southdowns College.
