Blanket drive provides warmth for the homeless
“You may be warm in your house, but there are many homeless people out in the streets. You can do something to help by supporting this campaign."
Round Table held a charity drive called “Winter Knights” on Friday to collect blankets, clothing, food and other necessities for the homeless this winter.
Members of the public were urged to donate warm blankets, which were distributed to homeless people around Centurion and Pretoria Central on Friday night.
“We aim to relieve the effects of the cold this winter by collecting donations in aid of those less fortunate,” said Round Table member Tom Alers.
Alers said Round Table wanted to raise public awareness of the plight of the homeless.
The Round Table members, joined by Jacaranda FM’s Martin Bester, also served soup to the homeless in both Centurion and the city centre.

Alers said items such as warm blankets, clothes, non-perishable food, over-the-counter medicines and toiletries were needed for the many homeless children and adults who live on the fringes of society.
“Many street kids and homeless people face the most severe cold nights in the winter,” said Centurion resident Elsie Lewis, who donated a blanket.
“It is a miracle how they survive without a roof over their heads and with no warm blankets or clothing during the coldest part of the year.
“You may be warm in your house, but there are many homeless people out in the streets. You can do something to help by supporting this campaign,” she said.
“Winter Knights” is an annual national Round Table initiative in partnership with Toyota.
