GALLERY: Countdown to Miss SA 2018

This year things will be done differently.

All roads lead to Pretoria for the Miss SA pageant this weekend.

Sun Arena at Time Square east of Pretoria has been announced as the new home for the pageant.

Miss SA will take place on 27 May and will be screened live on M-Net and Mzansi Magic at 17:00.

Local television personality and businesswoman Bonang Matheba will host.

This year marks 60 years since the pageant was founded.

Sun International event executive Gareth Flusk said this year things would be done differently.

“This year, following the cut to the top five finalists, the organisers would go straight to a top two announcement. One of the pair will be named Miss World SA and the other Miss Universe SA,” he said.

“Both will go on to represent SA on the global stage in each respective competition,”

As there could be only one reigning Miss SA, the two winners would be asked a final question by the judges.

“Their answers will determine who is crowned the Miss SA,” said Flusk.

The 12 finalists that competing for the Miss SA crown as unveiled earlier this month are:

  • Anzelle von Staden
  • Akile Khoza
  • Bryoni Govender
  • Daniellé de Jager
  • Karishma Ramdev
  • Margo Fargo
  • Noxolo Ndebele
  • Tamarin Bensch
  • Tamaryn Green
  • Thandokazi Mfundisi
  • Tharina Botes
  • Thulisa Keyi

Pretorians will be cheering one of their own, Anzelle von Staden of Irene, Centurion.

The BCom University of Pretoria graduate and is currently a full-time model.

“I lost a person close to me who was like my second mother from breast cancer. If I win the title I will use the brand to raise awareness [of cancer] and sponsorship,” she said.

Von Staden comes from a large but close-knit family and is the youngest of 15 grandchildren.

Her dream is to meet tennis legend Billie Jean King.
