UPDATE: Bronkhorstspruit head-on collision victim recovering after operation

Louis Esterhuizen was left with broken bones to the right side of his body and suffered bleeding to his brain.

 

Bronkhorstspruit head-on collision victim is in a stable condition after undergoing surgery on Thursday morning.

Louis Esterhuizen was left with broken bones to the right side of his body and suffered internal bleeding after he and his girlfriend Michelle Brits were involved in the head-on collision this past weekend.

Brits died on the scene and Esterhuizen was rushed to hospital.

“His intestines were mended and his internal bleeding was managed,” said his mother Betty Klymsit.

Klymsit said even though doctors told them that the procedure went well, the family was taking it one day at a time.

“We are a little relieved, but we are taking it one day at a time.”

Esterhuizen is also said to have experienced bleeding in the brain.

He remains under intensive care where doctors are keeping an eye on his condition.

“The hospital bills are still accumulating everyday,” Klymsit said.

The family was expected to fork out R100 000 for Esterhuizen’s medical expenses.

Friends and family on social media have since launched a campaign to help the family raise funds.

Klymsit said despite the financial expenses, she believed her son was in the safe hands of experts.
