NEWSFLASH: Motorist shot in the head during N4 robbery

The victim pulled off the road after his tyre was damaged by a piece of metal.

A man was rushed to hospital after he was shot in the head during a robbery near the N4 highway earlier this week.

The incident happened on Monday at around 23:15 near the Donkerhoek/Boschkop roads off the N4 highway, according to police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe.

The victim pulled off the road after his tyre was damaged by a piece of metal. Another motorist stopped to assist.

“While they were busy fixing the tyre, four unknown men arrived on the scene and pointed a firearm at the two men.

“They disarmed one of the men, took his cell phone and other valuables and shot the driver whose car had a puncture.”

The wounded man was rushed to a hospital and a case was opened by the Boschkop SAPS.

Van der Merwe urged motorists to be wary of sharp objects left intentionally on the road to damage the tyres of passing cars with the intention of robbing motorists when they stop to check.
