NEWSFLASH: Unarmed crew robs cellphone shop in Menlyn

"Two men and a woman entered the store and acted as customers before they overpowered the two staffers on duty."

Two unarmed men and a woman robbed a cellphone store in Menlyn on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said the three suspects got away with an unknown number of cellphones.

“Two men and a woman entered the store and acted as customers before they overpowered the two staffers on duty. They instructed the staff to open the safe and they stole cellphone stock.”

She said staff did not see any firearm and were not hurt.

Weilbach said all exit points were being monitored by the police and security companies.

She said it wasn’t clear if the suspects had already made their way out of the mall or not

The robbery occurred around 11:20, she said.

“Anyone that can assist the police with information should contact the police 012-366 1735/6 or  Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or send an SMS to 32211.”

Menlyn mall said it would issue a statement later.
