Louis’ father Pine Pienaar said that his son was doing well following the assault.

“He’s getting better although he’s still in ICU, he has made good progress. It will take two to four days for him to gain consciousness and thereafter the doctors can tell us if there’s any damage.”

Pienaar was out with his cousin Christian Cronjé when the assault took place.

Cronjé earlier told Rekord that a group of rugby players caused trouble while they were leaving the club.

“One of the players assaulted Louis in the parking area. When I went out of the club, I found that he had been knocked out cold. The guys did not check up on him, instead, they fled the scene.”

Cronjé drove Pienaar to Die Wilgers hospital.

Blue Bulls CEO Barend van Graan could not confirm whether one of his players was involved in the assault.

Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones confirmed a case of assault was opened.
