NEWSFLASH: Crawford principal and former top referee dies

Former football referee and Crawford primary school principal Ian McLeod has died

Crawford primary school principal Ian McLeod has died.

McLeod, who was also a prominent soccer official, was admitted to hospital last week.

The SA Football Association (Safa) said he died on Thursday night. He was 65 years old.

McLeod was the manager of Safa’s senior referees.

He was the first South African to referee in a Fifa World Cup when he officiated in the 1998 global showpiece in France.

He served as a referee instructor for the Confederation of African Football and a Fifa referee assessor.

Crawford primary school said McLeod joined the school in 2002 and he had a deep love for working with children.
