“We are still waiting for the government to give us feedback on free education.”

“After last year’s protests, we were promised by the government that they’ll come back to us with a report on free education,” he said.

“However, nothing has been done since then.”

Masilela said the march not only focused on students, but on graduates as well.

“Everyone is welcome to join. We are marching peacefully and hopefully the National Treasury can give us feedback today.

“We are not here to fight. We just want to engage, work together.”

Masilela believed that a joint effort between PASMA, the National Treasury and the Department of Higher Education could yield results.

“These students are pleading with government to help them.”

“We can’t protest every year. We all have classes to attend and exams to write. This march is also taking its toll on us,” he said.

“Regardless of everything, we can never be silent.”
