An award-winning police officer working for the Pretoria Central police station arrested a fugitive on Tuesday evening.
Pretoria Central police media liaison officer Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola said Warrant Officer Hermanus van der Berg made a breakthrough when he arrested a 32-year-old man who was wanted for housebreaking and theft. Police have been on his trail for a long period.
“Members of the Pretoria Central crime prevention unit led by Warrant Officer Van der Berg also arrested 21 people for drug possession in and around the Pretoria CBD,” said Lamola.
Those arrested are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court during the course of the week.

“Van Der Berg won himself an award for the 2016/2017 financial year which was for the second time as he was declared the winner of the same category during the 2013/2014 financial year,” said Lamola.
Pretoria Central station commander Brigadier Rienette Pieterse praised police officers for performing outstandingly and applauded Van der Berg for his accomplishments.
