McBride appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Wednesday on charges of child abuse and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was granted bail on condition that he did not contact any of the witnesses. The state did not oppose his bail application.

Recently, the IPID issued a statement saying that McBride wanted the court case to begin soon so that he could “clear his name”.

“As this matter is already in the courts, McBride had been advised not to comment further,” the body said.

McBride has also issued a statement saying that he had only admonished his daughter.

The case was postponed to 2 October for further investigations.
