Central man arrested for robbery

The man, and two accomplices, was reportedly caught red handed robbing another man on Sunday morning on the corner of Francis Baard and Wessels streets in Sunnyside.

A man has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on a robbery charge just seven day after being paroled last Tuesday.

In a statement, Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the man was arrested on Sunday morning after the police allegedly spotted three men robbing another on the corner of Francis Baard and Wessels streets in Sunnyside.

“Two attackers escaped. The man had been serving a six months jail term for a robbery conviction in April also in Sunnyside.

In that robbery in August last, a BlackBerry cellphone, car keys and bank cards were stolen from the victim,” said Mavimbela adding that man would have completed his sentence in October.

“During Sunday’s robbery, the victim’s iPhone 6 cellphone was taken. His jacket and cash were allegedly recovered from the man. We are working around the clock to ensure the safety of the community of Sunnyside, including tourists and revellers.”

The man appeared in the court on Tuesday morning.
