Brooklyn police spend 67 minutes at children’s home

Blankets, clothes, food and other items were donated by the Brooklyn police as part of their 67 minutes for Mandela day.

Children of Tshwane Haven were showered with love and gifts in Waterkloof on Monday.

Blankets, clothes, food and other items were donated by the Brooklyn police as part of their 67 minutes for Mandela day.

“We identified the need at the home after reading postings on social media,” said Brooklyn police station commander Brigadier Kushie Nair.

She said it was not always necessary to look for charity opportunities in other communities.

“Often there are needs within our own communities. As the saying goes: ‘charity begins at home’.”

Nair said although Tshwane Haven was under the management of the Tshwane Place of Safety Association, it was totally independent when it came to donations and financial resources.

Brooklyn police officers and residents made up bags with baby accessories and gifts for the children.

They also played with the children to put a smile on the little ones’ faces.

Nair said she was proud to have police officers with big hearts who went above and beyond for the community they served.

“Brooklyn police officers take part in charity events throughout the year.”

“By giving in simple ways, police officers find meaning in their own lives and it increases the commitment to the community they serve.”

Nair thanked Mon Ami Trauma Troops, Universal Paper & Plastic in Ga-Rankuwa, Newlands Spar, Brooklyn businessmen and residents for supporting the project and dropping off gifts at the station.
