UPDATE: Mooikloof substation fire still under investigation

At this stage it looks like it will cost R45 million to rebuilt.

Power supply to some parts of Pretoria east has been stable despite the Mooikloof substation catching fire on 23 May.

MMC for utility services, Darryl Moss said the substation was divided into three sections.

“One section was totally destroyed by the fire and will have to be rebuilt and the second was partially damaged, and is being repaired.

The first step in this is to repair the roof of the section, to ensure that the substation is protected from the weather.

The third section had only minor damage and is operational again,” said Moss.

He said the insurance and electricity departments were still investigating the cause of the fire.

“At this stage it looks like the cost of full restoration will be about R45 million.”
