Sungardens Hospice offers specialised home-based care to patients and their families who must cope with terminal illness such as cancer, HIV/Aids and motor neuron disease (MND).

Although the hospice has a 7-bed in-patient unit which provides short-term medical care including pain and symptom control, the main thrust of its work is that its nurses visit approximately 300 patients and families in their own homes to provide physical care, practical help and emotional support.

The hospice is also involved in day-care programmes, bereavement counselling and training. Its services are free of charge which is why it relies on donation from community and corporations to continue its operations.

The 5km, 10km and 21.1km run/walk will take place at mall on the corner of Lynnwood and Simon Vermooten roads, east of Pretoria.

The 2017 registration fees are as follows: R40 for the 5km, R70 for 10km and R80 for the 21.1km, and a temporary athletes licence for the 10 and 21.1km races can be purchased at R30.
