Mamelodi calm ahead of anti-foreigner march

"This is a peaceful march. We don't condone the violence. We're going to just hand in a memo to the minister of home affairs."

The situation in Mamelodi was calm on Friday, despite protesters marching from the townships to the CBD.

Protesters have however, allegedly blocked Mandela Valley in Mamelodi with burning tyres.

March organisers have said buses would not be picking protesters up in Mamelodi to take them to anti-foreigner march.

Bus drivers were reportedly worried that violence could break out.

Organiser Sanie Malapane however, said this was a peaceful march.

“We don’t condone violence. We’re going to just hand in a memo to the minister of home affairs,” said Malapane.
