Carols by Candlelight at Brooklyn police station

Brooklyn police hosted Carols by Candlelight to say “thank you” to residents.

Brooklyn police station employees, spouses, partners and residents came in the numbers to the Carols By Candlelight concert on Wednesday night.

The event was held at the station from 18:00 to 21:00.

Brooklyn police station commander, Brigadier Kushie Nair said she wanted to use the Carols by Candlelight to strengthen existing relationships and thank everybody who supported the police station during the year.

Residents brought their chairs and candles to celebrate the event.

Police spokesperson, Captain Colette Weilbach said residents also donated Christmas gifts and shoes to the underprivileged for good causes such as the Brooklyn SAPS Care and 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.

“Brooklyn police’s ‘Kick off the shoes of Abuse’ project complements the national 16 Days of Activism campaign,” said Weilbach adding that the symbolism of ‘Kick off the shoes of Abuse’was that residents pledged never to wear the shoes of an abuser.

She said the police also appreciated the commendation of the work the police did residents expressed in emails and phone calls to the station.

“Learners and students brought cupcakes or self-made thank you cards to the station and local churches opened their hearts and treated the police to rusks for morning tea, provided meeting venues, offered spiritual guidance and many more,” Weilbach said.

“All these gestures kept the police officers motivated and encouraged to deliver the best possible service to the community.”
