BREAKING NEWS: Shots fired in hostage situation

“Two people are laying in the complex and their condition was still to be confirmed in Bolo Street."

An armed man opened fire during a hostage situation at a complex east of Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon.

Brinant security operations manager Anton Nieuwoudt said two people were presumably shot and killed inside the Meadows complex in Moreleta Park.

“Two people are laying in the complex, but their condition still has to be confirmed.”

He said a Brinant security officer and policeman were still being held hostage inside the house.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said about eight police vehicles and 15 policemen were on the scene.

Nieuwoudt said a police negotiator had been called to speak to the armed man.

Mathe said paramedics and police were waiting for the police tactical response team to arrive to access the complex.

She said more information would follow.

Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones confirmed the matter and said detailed information would follow shortly.
