False prophets arrested

The fraudsters charged their victims for services rendered under false pretenses.

Two people accused of fraud appeared in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday.

Deon Niemandt (45) and Era Duminy (41) were granted R1 000 bail each. The matter was postponed to 29 November for further investigation.

They were arrested following an investigation that has lasted for more than a year.

The investigation related to fraudulent activities in Gauteng and other provinces.

“Several victims reported cases to the police after the fraudsters offered several professional services including pastoral care and counselling while they were not registered for those professions,” police spokesperson Lt-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

“They would then charge the victims for the services rendered under false pretenses.”

Dlamini said the fraudsters pretended to be pastors of the Soldiers for Christ ministry, which defrauded several people.

Ther fraudsters rented an office in Pretoria.

“Police had seized several documents.”

Dlamini said the police investigation was continuing.

The Pretoria Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit asked other people who might have been defrauded to come forward.
