Saturday Night Fever at the state theatre

The Pretoria State Theatre was the place to be on Friday as many arrived for the opening night of Saturday Night Fever.

Pretorians made their way to the state theatre on Friday to attend the opening night of the legendary Saturday Night Fever stage play.

Humble paint store clerk by day, stallion dance king by night, Tony Manero lives for Saturday night at the disco.

Saturday Night Fever is the classic story of hope triumphing over tragedy, with the electric combination of music and dance fused with a blistering soundtrack.

The famous Bee Gees score – one of the best-selling movie soundtracks of all time – includes Stayin’ AliveDisco InfernoNight FeverMore Than a WomanIf I Can’t Have YouNights on BroadwayHow Deep is Your Love and Tragedy.

Parents also took their young ones to experience the legendary disco stage musical.

Attendees dressed in ‘70s and ‘80s suites and costumes similar to those John Travolta wore in Norman Wexler’s 1977 film of the same name.

The 2016 Pretoria stage play is the first professional, original production licensed for South Africa and features an all-South African cast and creative team.
