Wollies celebrates third birthday

Animal shelter celebrates three years of love and care for unwanted animals.

Wollies Animal Project celebrated its third birthday in Hestea Park on Saturday as a safe haven for animals.

The morning started with a 2km walk as animal lovers took the dogs from Wollies for a stroll.

All the dogs, old and young, got their turn to play around and meet new people.

The walk was followed by a treasure hunt at 11:00 where prizes were won.

Supreme Pet sponsored the event.

Sandra Busch of Wollies said she was overwhelmed by the support and how the project had grown.

“We are honoured to get this support today. It is amazing how we have grown. We started in 2013 with only 100 dogs and today we have 500 dogs and 250 cats.”

Busch thanked those who took part of the celebration.

“The support we get is amazing. A lot of people come here with a bag of dog food or cat food,” she said.

“Today it’s R20 per dog. The reason for this is that we have so many dogs here desperate to have someone taking them for a walk.”
