Capital city buzzing with Christmas babies

All around Pretoria hospitals were busy on Christmas day as many babies made their arrival.

It was a beautiful Christmas for maternity wards around Pretoria as quite a few babies were born on 25 December.
Lorraine Esau gave birth to her baby boy Zac Esau at 07:49 on Christmas day at the Netcare Unitas Hospital.
Zac, who was born weighing 3.11kg, gave his mommy a pleasant surprise as she did not expect him to come into the world on Christmas day.
“I feel good and I don’t have any complaints. It was a surprise because he arrived earlier than he should have. I am happy to have him here with me,” Esau said.
Zac is the only baby.
But it was a night of delivery at the Mamelodi Hospital as five babies entered the world on Christmas day.
Matron on duty, Naomi Masemola said she was happy as all five babies, a girl and four boys and their mommies were happy and healthy.
“We are happy that we have healthy babies and healthy mommies, it is a blessing indeed,” she said.
Matseleng Msimango who gave birth to the only baby girl, Oratilwe Msimango, said she was pleased.
“I am very happy to have given birth to my Christmas baby, Oratilwe which means she is loved,” Matseleng said.
Oratilwe was born at 00:15 and weighs 3.52kg.
Four babies, three boys and a girl were born at the Pretoria West hospital.
“My baby’s name is Karabo, mine too” two mommies in the same maternity ward of  the Pretoria West Hospital shouted on Christmas day.
Mpho Ngwato of Atteridgeville and Lucy Modjadji Lebea of Danville both gave birth to boys they named Karabo which means answer in Sepedi, Tswana and Sesotho.
Karabo Ngwato was born at 02:45 weighing 4.5kg while Karabo Kekana was born at approximately 05:00; both mommies had passed their due dates and were patiently waiting for their babies to be born.
Mpho said she was happy as she had waited for him for so long.
“I waited for so long, [during my first visit to hospital] and I was told to go home as my time for delivery had not yet arrived. When I returned, my Karabo was born. He is my Christmas gift from God,” Mpho said.
Lucy said her due date was last week and she arrived on Monday [lat week] but was told to go home as it was not yet time for delivery. She returned to the hospital around 04:40 on Christmas day and soon gave birth to Karabo.
“When I came to hospital and around 04:40 am, I had labour pains. I went straight into labour as staff did tests on me. I am so happy and excited to have my baby,” Lucy said.
