Recruits join metro police

Tshwane metro police welcomes graduates into the force.

The Tshwane metro has announced the addition of 1 925 personnel to its police numbers.

On Tuesday morning, the metro celebrated the graduation at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville where graduates’ friends, family attended.

New officers made oath to be honest and work hard.

Tshwane mayor, Councillor Kgosientso Ramokgopa, congratulated the trainees and advised them not to compromise the two years of dedication and commitment put into training by taking bribes.

“Do not get greedy because we pay you salaries,” he added.

The MMC for Community Safety, Cllr Terence Mashego, congratulated the recruits and encouraged them to wear their uniform with pride and walk tall, and that they should bring pride and dignity to their uniforms by not taking any bribes.

The trainees are now fully fledged metro police constables who were encouraged to work their way up.

“The constables have stood the test of time. They have demonstrated their mental and physical ability, as well as their tenacity and commitment. They have also shown resilience and an impeccable work ethic by undergoing such a competitive, gruelling regimen of training and studying,” the metro said in a statement.

Ramokgopa has since promised that the metro police would deploy ten officers per ward as part of the strategy to make Tshwane a safer place to live in.

There was also a formal parade by the metro police, gymnastics, physical training display, aerobics, firearm and drill displays. The metro police band and choir performed for guests.
