Support for new police chief

The Pretoria West CPF welcomed the police station’s new commander and promised to work with her.

The Pretoria West CPF has welcomed newly-appointed police station commander Colonel M Toohey, pledging to work with her in the fight against crime.

CPF spokesperson Thesigan Pillay said becoming a station commander was a job of immense personal satisfaction and unrelenting pressure.

Toohey took up her position about two weeks ago. She succeeded acting commander Lt-Col Godfrey Zwane.

Pillay said every successful police station commander should understand the responsibility, authority and accountability that going with the job.

“It is the traid of the commander’s office where the governing standards which must be met. The CPF Pretoria West therefore is behind the commander with a full partnership between the police station and the community in order to reduce crime.”

Pillay said the CPF hoped there would be reforms to improve services at the Pretoria West police station.

Pillay said crimes on the rise in Pretoria West included serious assault, fraud, armed robbery, prostitution, shoplifting and sexual assault.

“The Pretoria West CPF is part of the solution relating to the crime and is is ready to collaborate with the police station.”
