A day for rescued Huskies

Huskies came in numbers to Smuts House in Irene on Sunday, in a fun walk dedicated to rescuing huskies.

Smuts House in Irene was the venue where huskies from all over Centurion and Pretoria came in support of the Husky Heaven Rescue fun walk on Sunday morning.

Dog lover’s young and old brought man’s best friend in a fun walk aimed at creating awareness on adopting huskies and all other dogs from underprivileged backrounds.

Waggin their tails, different breed huskies, each with their own special history, barked and panted after the long or short route through Smuts House, depending on the husky owner’s choice of route.

Husky Heaven Rescue owner, Brenda Meyer, said this was a cause close to her heart.

She said the rescue heaven strives to help huskies that are in need of love and care and would go to lengths to ensure the ill-treated breed receives the best care in its recovery.

“Some of our huskies have suffered serious abuse by previous owners but we at Husky Heaven take it upon ourselves to help where we can.”

Meyer related a short story about a husky whose owner was suffering from drug addiction, and ended up ill-treating a husky by burning it with cigarettes.

She said the husky had since gone through proper rehabilitation and is now happier than ever in their care.

“More events are to come as we will have a sleep-over under the stars, at our camp in Oatlands, Krugersdorp, where dog lovers will get to experience an entire night sleeping in a specially created enclosure with their adopted huskies. She asked anyone who is interested in joining the night under the stars to like them on Facebook at Husky Heaven Rescue for more details of the day and date.

Meyer emphasised that the Husky Heaven Rescue team does not only take care of the husky breed only but also in some cases adopt other breeds as well.
