Man wins third case against police

Koot Mostert won his third case against the police for unlawful arrest on Tuesday.

A Pretoria West resident has taken the police on three times over an unlawful arrest — and came out victorious three times.

Koos Mostert said afterwards: “Maybe because our area is of lower income people the police think they can do as they please and think people are stupid. Well, I am not one of those people.”

Mostert has been in court three times the past two years about an unlawful arrest by members of the Pretoria West police station and has won all the cases.

His latest fight came from Mostert being arrested after his neighbour allegedly shot at him.

The charges he laid against his neighbour for attempted murder were withdrawn, but he pushed on with his claims of an unlawful arrest.

The matter was heard on Tuesday and Mostert got his way again.

“I don’t trust the police anymore after this. They are corrupt and only want to enrich themselves by making dockets disappear,” Mostert said.

He said he has never had a problem with the Hercules or Pretoria central police stations, but Pretoria West seem to have it in for him.

Mostert told Rekord that he was happy that justice was served because the police thought they could get away with treating people badly.

“I used the same lawyer I have been using in all the cases. The police were found to be in the wrong in all the cases for unlawfully arresting me.”
